A Simple DIY shade sail

A very simple, no-sew DIY shade canopy for you! This was an article I wrote for a summer publication a few years ago but in honour of the recent heat, I thought it would be nice to post again. It’s a budget- friendly way to create a magical shady area in your garden, or park. Enjoy!

You need:

  • Rope

  • 1-2 large pieces of fabric. A table cloth or bedsheet work well (I used one of each here)

  • 6-8 tent pegs

  • Either 2 trees to attach the rope, or a tree and a tent pole, or 2 tent poles. You can buy single extendable tent poles online.

  • Blankets and pillows to lounge upon!

  1. Attach the rope between 2 trees, 2 tent poles or one tree and one tent pole like in the image below

  2. Use safety pins to attach the 2 [pieces of fabric together, unless you happen to have a totally enormous piece of fabric!

  3. Knot the 4 corners of the fabric

  4. put tent pegs through the knots to stretch out the canopy.

  5. Dress with cushions and blankets!
